Breed Traits & Characteristics
The Mastiff’s short, dense coat is easy to groom, usually requiring only a quick brushing every few days. During periods of heavy shedding once or twice a year, more frequent sessions with a strong, toothed comb are recommended to remove dead hair. The ears and the deep wrinkles around the Mastiff’s head, eyes, and muzzle should be regularly inspected and cleaned, and the nails trimmed short. Finally, Mastiffs drool! Most owners keep cloths at hand to wipe
‘slingers’I off their Mastiff’s face and their own and visitors’ clothing.
Bred to be guardians of ‘hearth and home,’El Mastiffs have comparatively low exercise requirements and can live happily in an apartment. They benefit physically and psychologically from free play and daily walks’¿a mile or two for adult Mastiffs. However, owners must be careful not to overtax growing puppies and young adults: Don’t allow them to run up and down stairs, jump from heights, or engage in long walks. Begin with no more than half a block for a 2- to 3-month-old puppy. Additionally, Mastiffs are notorious for plopping down during walks when they are tired or overheated. Therefore, a rule of thumb is to not walk them farther than you can carry them back!
Obedience training and early socialization are ‘musts’E for Mastiffs. Mastiffs learn quickly and want to please. However, the repetitions in a typical training class will quickly bore them, at which point they may lie down, snoring. Make eye contact with your Mastiff; they communicate a great deal with their eyes, and they are excellent at reading your expressions and body language. Use praise and positive rewards’¿you can easily hurt their feelings by raising your voice. Hold several short sessions during the day, keeping it fun and varied. When treated with love, inclusion, and respect, Mastiffs can be trained to excel in almost any sphere.
For rapidly growing giant breeds such as the Mastiff, proper nutrition is critical through puppyhood and up to 2 years of age. Slow and steady growth is optimal.
If fed a densely caloric diet lacking an appropriate calcium/phosphorous ratio, Mastiff puppies and young adults are prone to skeletal disorders. Most breed experts recommend that puppies start on an adult dog food formulation with a protein percentage no higher than 26 percent, and a calcium/phosphorous ratio of approx.1.2:1. Feeding scheduled meals is recommended, rather than free-feeding, to avoid excessive weight gain.
The Mastiff Club of America (MCOA) provides in-depth information on breed health. Responsible breeders screen their stock for health conditions such as seasonal allergies, eye anomalies, heart disease, cancer, eye and hip dysplasia, von Willebrand’s disease, degenerative myelopathy, and epilepsy.
Hygromas’ ¿harmless natural ‘cushions’El that protect the elbow joints when the Mastiff is lying on hard surfaces’¿are common. Do not allow the vet to drain them. Finally, Mastiffs can experience bloat, a life-threatening condition where the stomach suddenly distends and often twists as well. Owners should educate themselves as to what symptoms indicate this is occurring and what to do should it occur.

How it works
Step 1
After browsing through our website, send us an inquiry message about the puppy you are interested in. You will then fill out the pet adoption application and submit. We’ll review and then send you an email, text or give you a call. There is no discrimination on who can get a puppy from us. Gender, Sexuality or Race. However, if you are below 18 we would need to talk to someone who is an adult. It could be your friend or relative.
Step 2
Secondly, you will be asked to fill out the pet adoption form and submit. We will then schedule a call to talk to you over the phone, send you an email or text. If we choose you, we will then send you the sales agreement so you can review and sign it. It usually takes about 2 to 3 hours and sometimes up to a day to make a decision. All of our puppies come with a lifetime health guarantee against congenital defects.
Step 3
After you have signed the agreement you can either come for pickup or I’ll make the delivery arrangements. Depending on which you selected. For pickup, a deposit of $650 is required prior to the date of pickup. This applies to everyone wanting to come for pickup. All pickups are done on Saturday or Sunday between 10:00am and 5:00pm. For delivery, you are required to make the complete payment for the puppy then pay for the shipping fee. After the puppy is delivered to you. Who We Are
The King Mastiff breeders have a combined 18 years of expertise and a great deal of passion for their work. Our company specialises in breeding Mastiff dogs who have excellent temperaments, personalities, and physical health. The production of healthy pups destined for loving homes with families as well as show homes is the primary objective of our breeding programme. All of our canine family members reside with us in our house, where they get along famously with our children and all of our other animals, including our cats and birds. We take our dogs on adventures to the many parks and beaches located in and around the city. We have been involved in the breeding and raising of pups for the last 18 years, and throughout that time, we have developed the philosophy that "Quality Isn't Expensive, It's Priceless." As is the case with the majority of things in life, the most important thing is the experience. You don't need to go any farther if you want pups that will make others stare and win your heart over because of what we've accomplished so far in the world of puppies, and we're proud of what we've accomplished so far in this industry.
Things You Should Know About Our Puppies
Some interesting facts about the breed:
- Largest Dog in the World: The average size of the Mastiff (about 175 pounds) is greater than any other breed. English Mastiffs hold world records too: Zorba the Mastiff was listed as the World’s Largest Dog in the Guinness Book of World Records for many years. Zorba, an English Mastiff, weighed in at a whopping 343 pounds.
- A long “puppy” phase: While most breeds mature by about a year and a half (if not before), Mastiffs remain in their “puppy stage” for about three years. And since the breed’s lifespan is only 6-10 years, some Mastiffs are puppies for nearly half their lives!
- Big Dogs, Big Litters: The average litter size for dogs is 5-6 puppies–but Mastiff females give birth to 10-12 puppies. Mastiff litters as large as 20 puppies (or more) is possible.
- Mastiff on the Mayflower: Historical records show that a Mastiff accompanied the English Pilgrims when they made land at Plymouth Rock in 1620. A passenger named John Goodman brought his Mastiff (along with an English Springer Spaniel) on the ship; though the names of the dogs is unknown, they were instrumental in helping the Pilgrims settle in the new land.

Living Requirements
Owning a Mastiff can take patience and work. As English Mastiff owners know, these dogs drool heavily, are gassy, and their sheer size makes them like bulls in China shops, as they’ll knock over valuables and simply fill up entire rooms. Even so, having a Mastiff as a pet can be a wonderful thing–because as anyone owning an English Mastiff can attest, their size and protective instincts provide plenty of safety.
Living with an English Mastiff is best in a home with a yard, though these big dogs will be okay in apartments as long as they get some daily exercise. Regardless of accommodations, the Mastiff should also live inside with its people instead of out in the yard. And for obvious reasons, a Mastiff should never be chained up, as doing so is a dangerous recipe for aggression and destruction.
And are Mastiffs hypoallergenic? In short, they are not. The English Mastiff hypoallergenic tendencies are basically zero, thanks to a double-layered coat that sheds seasonally. Allergy sufferers will probably need to find another breed.
